DUXBURY — In a highly competitive girls’ soccer clash between two potential contenders, Duxbury and Norwell battled to a 1-1 tie Tuesday at Duxbury High.
“It felt like a tournament game, Game 1 of the season, which for us is good,” said Norwell coach Rob Williams. “We’ve made sure our schedule is really strong this year. You need games like that throughout the season.”
After a scoreless first half, the action intensified in the second and yielded two highlight goals.
Louisville-bound junior standout Kelsey Tuttle tapped the ball in from right in front of the net to put the No. 5 Clippers (0-0-1) ahead midway through the second half.
The No. 8 Dragons (0-0-1) responded when junior Lilah MacQuarrie converted a timely header with 9:39 remaining.
“If that’s what we’re known for as a team, then I will be very happy,” said Duxbury coach Rob Jones. “I’d rather my team had heart, came back, and found a way back into games, had a passion, and had courage, and could do those things, than be that silky smooth team all the time.”
Both sides generated chances from there, but Duxbury goalie Grey Metzler and Norwell keeper Elle Robinson continued to make a steady stream of saves.
