Eastern Mass. girls’ volleyball: Players of the Week for Sept. 1-3

Less than a week into the season, see our updated Top 20 poll, and our latest girls’ volleyball Players of the Week.

Molly Franco, Old Rochester — Popping 26 kills, the junior powered the Bulldogs in a Division 3 semifinal rematch, a five-setter over Weston. She went 20 of 21 in serve receive, adding 13 digs and 4 aces.

Nora Hamel, Newton North — The junior stepped up on a team looking for hitters to rise to the challenge, smashing seven kills in the first set of a Bay State Conference sweep of Needham, a matchup of top-five teams.

Lyla McDonough, Oliver Ames — In a thrilling Hockomock four-setter, the junior racked up 26 assists, 24 service points, and 3 aces to take down Franklin.

Sophia Quinton, Nauset — The junior contributed 9 kills, 7 aces, and 16 digs for the Warriors in a 3-1 Cape & Islands win against Sturgis East.

Sabine Wenzel, Melrose — The senior middle hitter delivered 30 kills in a five-set Middlesex League victory over Belmont.
